Ananda Lewis, the former MTV VJ, has sadly passed away, according to a post made on her sister’s Facebook account. “She’s free, and in His heavenly arms,” wrote Lakshmi Emory, Ananda Lewis’ sister, in her Facebook post. “Lord, rest her soul,” she further expressed.
Lewis, who was a prominent figure on MTV’s Total Request Live and Hot Zone, received multiple NAACP Image Awards and had been open about her struggle with Stage 4 breast cancer. She was 52 years old.
In 2020, Lewis was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer. She chose to pursue alternative therapies and delayed her mastectomy rather than opting for conventional cancer treatments.
Later, she disclosed that her cancer had advanced to stage IV. In October 2024, she shared that her cancer had metastasized, but she made the decision to “keep my tumor.”
A graduate of Howard University, she rose to prominence as the host of BET’s Teen Summit. Her success with Teen Summit led to her hosting two shows on MTV, Total Request Live and Hot Zone, during the mid-nineties.
She became a beloved figure on MTV and continues to be fondly remembered for her time at the network.
